Published Date: Apr 10, 2024

Calling all business and/or commercial lenders! Skillsoft’s Lean Into Learning report, reveals that certifications are one of the best ways to stay ahead of an ever-growing financial services sector. Are you looking to take your business lender skills up a notch? CCUA, through The Credit Union Institute of Canada (CUIC), offers the pathways you need to become accredited at the ready.

The Business Lender Accreditation, backed by Dalhousie University, is one of our most popular accreditations. This six-course program is designed to lead business and commercial lenders from foundational knowledge to the more complex credit situations that more closely reflect day-to-day reality, and with two of the six courses being offered shortly, now is the time to jump in!

If you already have some business/commercial lender experience, get started with Advanced Business Lending on May 2! In this course, our expert facilitator, Erin McGregor, will lead you through five sessions that will equip you to:

  • Match the borrowing needs of a corporate borrower with the appropriate debt structure.
  • Evaluate sophisticated lending structures and risks.
  • Define key terms in loan agreements such as: representations and warranties, covenants and conditions precedent.
  • And more!

After Advanced Business Lending, keep on track towards accreditation by expanding on your financial statement understanding with the Introduction to Business Financial Statement Analysis on June 3 with Frank Kennes! Through this course, you’ll gain the following skills:

  • Read and understand financial statements from various businesses.
  • Measure an organization’s profitability, solvency, stability, and liquidity.
  • Recognize strengths and weaknesses in a business’s financial position.
  • Determine a business’s creditworthiness for both short and long-term debt repayment.

Keep an eye on the 2024 Calendar of Employee Learning to see when the rest of the courses will be offered! After completing all six courses in the program, learners will receive a digital credential, marking their achievement as an “Accredited Business Lender,” a nationally recognized accreditation awarded jointly by CUIC Inc. and Dalhousie University.
