CCUA responds to federal housing supply consultation

Published Date: Oct 29, 2026

CCUA has responded to a federal consultation on increasing housing supply by urging the federal government to design financing programs to complement what is already available from credit unions and other financial institutions.

In our reply to Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada’s consultation on financing measures to support housing supply for homeowners and renters, CCUA highlighted credit unions’ support for the government's goal of increasing housing supply and improving housing affordability across Canada. We emphasized that achieving this objective will require a coordinated approach that brings together governments, housing providers, developers, and Canada's financial institutions. We also stressed that federal funding and financing programs should build on the support already available through Canada’s financial system and help more housing projects get the funding they need.
