Reading and Interpreting Financial Statements – Updated Course Now Available!

In this interactive 60-minute eLearning module, the learner will become familiar with the three types of businesses that may present financial statements to the credit union, explore the different types of financial statements and outlines the features of each, and apply the knowledge to a credit union’s financial statements and how the learner’s activities impact the organization’s assets and liabilities. The final section of the module helps learners understand what to evaluate from financial statements when members apply for credit.

Using a case study, you’ll learn how the analysis differs when the member’s business is set up as a company versus a sole proprietor account. Furthermore, completing this course will equip the learner to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and notes to reader
  • Explain the purpose of the three main components of financial statements
  • Describe the three different types of prepared financial statements and who prepares them
  • List ways a credit union employee can negatively or positively impact the credit union’s bottom line
  • Explain what a credit union employee must take into consideration when funds are lent to a self-employed member for business versus personal purchases  
  • Access risk considerations when dealing with financial statements presented by members
