Credit unions care about their communities. All six credit unions in Newfoundland and Labrador—Atlantic Edge, Community, NLCU, Public Service, Reddy Kilowatt, and Venture Credit Union —are joining forces for a province-wide Fall Food Drive to support local food banks and the Community Food Sharing Association.

With 37 branch locations across the province collecting non-perishable foods and cash donations, the campaign runs until November 14, 2025. Together, we can make a real difference in addressing food insecurity.

All six credit unions in Newfoundland and Labrador are participating in a province-wide food drive to raise awareness of food insecurity in the province and to maximize their collective impact on local communities. Participating credit unions are Atlantic Edge Credit Union, Community Credit Union, NLCU, Public Service Credit Union, Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union, and Venture Credit Union.

A total of 37 credit union branch locations across the province are collecting donations of non-perishable foods for their local food banks. Cash donations are also accepted and will be provided to the Community Food Sharing Association and local food banks. Donations will be accepted at all credit union branches in Newfoundland and Labrador until November 14, 2025.

Here are some key facts about food insecurity in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2024:

• Approximately 158,000 people or 30% of the population in Newfoundland and Labrador lived in a
  food-insecure household. This represents about a 4% increase from 2023.
• Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick shared the highest rates of childhood food
  insecurity in Canada, at 39.9% or 33,000 children.
• Single-parent families in the province experienced the highest rate of food insecurity among all
  household types, at 56.8%, up from 39.5% in 2023.
• All NL credit unions have historically supported local food banks and the Community Food Sharing Association. In 2022, NLCU held the first Fall Food Drive upon the recommendation of NLCU employees who were deeply committed to combating food insecurity in our communities.
