Meridian CEO Jay-Ann Gilfoy was recently interviewed by the Toronto Star, where she reflected on her transition from Vancity to Meridian Credit Union and the unique value that credit unions offer by providing their members partial stakes in their financial institution so they can have ownership over their financial futures. “Saying yes — perhaps when others would say no — that’s the whole genesis of the credit union movement in this country,” Gilfoy says.
As a member-focused financial institutions, credit unions are recognized for helping educate Canadians on how to access and use money in a way that will help them reach their financial goals. She also addressed key issues of importance to the CU system such as: ESG, affordable housing, and the impact of inflation on Canadians, and how Meridian is working to provide meaningful solutions to enhance the lives of Canadians.
