Meeting with the Minister of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources, the Honourable Jamie Moses 

Earlier this month, executives from Access Credit Union, Fusion Credit Union, and Stride Credit Union joined CCUA and CUCM to meet with the Minister of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources, the Honourable Jamie Moses. We had a productive high-level introductory meeting with the Minister, where we shared information about our sector, our top priorities, and in-depth details about credit union involvement in the Manitoba Venture Capital Fund.  

We also discussed opportunities for credit union executives to be more involved through participation in Manitoban Boards and Committees. CCUA and CUCM will be sending out an email this month to all credit union executives to ask who would be interested in being considered for these entities.  

Overall, the Minister was very supportive of the credit union sector and is looking forward to working alongside our sector to further the economic climate of Manitoba.  

Introductory MLA meetings 

As our government engagement continues in 2024, we have sent out meeting requests to all Manitoba MLA’s and we have received a strong response from MLAs on both sides of the house. Last week, we met with 2 NDP MLAs, MLA Rachelle Schott of Kildonan-River East and MLA David Pankratz of Waverley, in their constituency offices to share more about the credit union sector, as well as information about the credit unions who provide services to their constituents. In each of these meetings, CCUA and CUCM were joined by executives from the local credit unions to help facilitate introductions between the MLA and the credit union. There are still many meetings left to confirm, and we will reach out to all credit unions in the MLA's ridings to request their attendance.

Affordability Survey 

CUCM and CCUA are currently developing a survey to send out to all Manitoba credit unions to develop a better understanding of the measures credit unions are using to support Manitobans with housing affordability. Many elected officials ask questions about the rising costs of living, and we would like to provide them with more specific examples, especially for our meetings with the Minister of Finance and with local MLAs.
