On October 19th, credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and promote its achievements. In recognition of this special day, Kingston Community Credit Union is inviting its members and those in the community to attend celebrations tomorrow at each of our branches on (759 Gardiners Road, 18 Market Street, and 1201 Division Street) where food and refreshments will be available.

Kingston Community Credit Union celebrates Co-op Week and 75 years of International Credit Union Day.
Co-op Week is a celebration that takes place every year in Canada during the third week of October. The week-long event is designed to raise awareness and understanding of co-operative organizations and the business model they use. Communities across the country host events that highlight the contributions and accomplishments of co-operatives and credit unions. Co-operatives are businesses that are owned and controlled by their members, who share in the profits and decision-making.

As financial cooperatives, credit union members are also owners which means members and their financial well-being are top priority. All members have an equal say in how their credit union operates, can democratically vote for its board of directors, and share in the profits in the form of dividends, rebates, no fee/low fee accounts, community investments, and access to a large surcharge-fee ATM network.

International Credit Union Day has been observed every year since 1948 with 2023 marking its 75th year. Credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. In recognition of this special day, Kingston Community Credit Union invites its members and the community to branch celebrations on Thursday, October 19th 2023 at each of our branches (759 Gardiners Road, 18 Market Street, and 1201 Division Street) where food and refreshments will be available.

Additionally, KCCU is celebrating Canada's Credit Union's 19th consecutive win at the recent 2023 Ipsos Financial Service Excellence Awards. For the 19th consecutive year, Canada's credit unions have earned the overall award for Customer Service Excellence.

Canadian credit unions were chosen as the overall winners among all financial institutions in retail banking, which is quite an achievement. This recognition is well-deserved, as credit unions have a long tradition of putting their customers first and offering personalized service that meets their unique needs.
