Last week, CCUA held a webinar session on the Financial Consumer Protection Framework - Requirements and Implications for Credit Unions. This is an important topic for all credit unions as consumer protection is a key focus of regulators at both a provincial and federal level. Although the FCPF is federal legislation, it is already influencing provincial regulators and their market conduct regulation, including regulation of the credit union market code of conduct.
Next summer, the remainder of the legislative amendments comprising the FCPF will come into force, establishing new and updated consumer protection rules and effecting a major consolidation of the federal consumer protection landscape. The webinar featured insights from from Brigitte Goulard, Co-head of Torys' Consumer Protection practice and Fintech group, and former Deputy Commissioner of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, along with Erin Tolfo, VP, Compliance & Financial Crime Risk Management at Coast Capital Savings and part of Coast Capital’s Legal, Regulatory & Corporate Affairs team.
