In the Fall 2025, the Government of Nova Scotia passed the Social Insurance Number Protection Act, part of the Protecting Nova Scotians Act, which aims to safeguard Nova Scotians by limiting collection and retention of Social Insurance Numbers (SINs). CCUA has been informed that the Department of Service Nova Scotia will soon launch a stakeholder consultation to inform the development of the regulations, with a focus on identifying any unintended consequences of this new legislation.
