Celebrate International Day of Education with CCUA!

Published Date: Jan 22, 2024

In 2018, the United Nations proclaimed January 24th as the International Day of Education and have since noted that, “[e]ducation is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility” (United Nations). Furthermore, according to UNESCO statistics, 763 million adults around the world are illiterate, and the Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center cites that only 33% of adults worldwide are financially literate. Canadians, specifically, have some of the highest debt levels in the world (Statistics Canada).

These numbers are a priority for the CCUA as we are committed to championing credit unions as they help Canadians achieve financial well-being by providing quality research and education, and we can see a marked growth in our education efforts over the last few years. For example, we had a record average of 4,603 unique active monthly users on CCUA Campus in 2023, a roughly 20% increase over 2022. Furthermore, over 17,000 unique credit union staff accessed Campus in 2023, including 860 unique board members. In terms of learning statistics, over 37,000 CCUA Education courses were completed, including over 1,300 CUDA courses.

Now is the time to take charge of your scholastic future and advance your professional development. See below for a list of CCUA’s initiatives and course offerings that can help elevate financial literacy in both your credit union and community:

  • Each One. Teach One (EOTO): Our partner program provides financial literacy workshops and trains credit union employees to become trainers themselves. Our next virtual session starts in late February, and you can learn more about EOTO on CCUA Campus here.
  • Skillsoft DEI Learning Program: UNESCO cites quality education as a tool for achieving gender equality and countering hate speech. The new Skillsoft DEI Learning Program can help your credit union towards this goal. Learn more here.
  • Financial Abuse of Older Adults Course: Protection of our community’s most vulnerable starts with becoming educated on the risks. Check out the trailer to our course on financial abuse of older adults here.
  • 2024 Calendars of Employee and Director Learning: CCUA offers courses for both credit union employees and directors throughout the year that are designed to aid credit union employees in their skills development journey and help them deliver the best service to their communities. See the employee calendar here and the CUDA calendar here.
