CCUA attends Ministry of Agriculture’s Agriculture Lenders Stakeholders Meeting

Published Date: Feb 4, 2026

CCUA along with National Consulting Limited and Innovation Federal Credit Union, attended the Ministry of Agriculture’s agricultural lenders meeting. The roundtable brought lenders together to discuss current conditions across the sector including commodity prices, drought, irrigation developments, land values, succession planning, and crop rotation planning. Stakeholders also noted that many producers are continuing to hold grain, with early indicators suggesting that 2026 could resemble - or potentially exceed - the challenges experienced in 2025, depending on upcoming trade negotiations.

The Minister highlighted ongoing provincial irrigation initiatives and emphasized the need for continued investment in agricultural research and innovation. Officials also provided an update on changes to farmland ownership regulations, guided in part by recommendations from the Provincial Auditor. These changes aim to ensure Saskatchewan farmland remains Canadian owned.

The Ministry offered further insight into the current review cycle of the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP), ahead of negotiations on the next policy framework.

Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation shared information about strengthening the insurance fund and noted the increased AgriStability payout levels. While enhancements to AgriStability were introduced in 2025 in response to trade uncertainty, officials noted that no similar changes are currently planned for 2026.

Additionally, after engaging with producers, the provincial and federal governments are replacing the Forage Rainfall Insurance Program (FRIP) with a new Satellite Forage Insurance program.

CCUA will be requesting a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, David Marit, to discuss the CALA program, ILA, and provide an update on the sector. For additional information, please contact Rob Swallow at rswallow@ccua.com or 306-551-3050.
