The Alberta Government announced on April 29, 2025, the approval of amendments to the Credit Union (Principal) Regulation, to provide clarity and a path forward for the mergers between federal credit unions and provincial credit unions. This will facilitate the proposed merger of ABCU and Innovation Federal Credit Union, and other similar mergers.

The Order in Council, which formalizes these amendments, was signed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on April 30th, with the amendments posted publicly on May 1st in Alberta King's Printer: Orders in Council.
