New credit union mergers and acquisitions

Amalgamation of credit unions continues with two recent announcements. Earlier this week, the 12 member caisses populaires of L’Alliance des caisses populaires de l’Ontario overwhelmingly voted in favour of amalgamation under the new banner of Caisse populaire Alliance limited. Caisse populaire Alliance will have $ 1.5B in assets, 50,000 members, and 300 employees, serving 24 communities in Northern Ontario.

And on October 20, the seven credit unions that encompass the Kootenay, Boundary and Columbia Valley regions of BC, announced they are embarking on a formal process to explore the benefits of creating a single credit union to serve the needs of members across the three regions.
