Hike the Hill 2026: credit unions bring a unified voice to Parliament Hill

Published Date: Nov 2, 2026

Over sixty credit union leaders from across Canada gathered in Ottawa for Hike the Hill 2026, CCUA's flagship advocacy event, to bring our sector’s interests directly to federal decision makers.

The Government Relations Forum on the first day featured speakers from the worlds of politics and policy. The second day saw credit union advocates meet with thirty-eight MPs, senators, government officials, and senior political staff from across the political spectrum, including representatives from the Prime Minister's Office and the Leader of the Official Opposition.

A key focus of this year's advocacy was improving competition in financial services by modernizing the federal merger review process for credit unions. Advocates highlighted how a more efficient regulatory framework would help credit unions grow, compete more effectively with Canada's largest financial institutions, and continue to deliver choice and value to Canadians.

Hike the Hill continues to demonstrate the power of a united credit union voice. By sharing local perspectives with federal decision makers, participants helped strengthen awareness of the cooperative banking model and reinforce the important role credit unions play in supporting Canadians and local economies.

CCUA extends its sincere thanks to all delegates who participated and helped ensure the interests of credit unions and their members were represented on Parliament Hill.
