This two-day conference in Ottawa will bring together leading regulators to offer a fresh federal perspective on credit union and greater financial sector regulatory challenges. It will also offer an in-depth analysis of the federal continuance process for credit unions from the viewpoints of regulators and a credit union that just went through the process. Participants will hear from Finance Canada, OSFI, CDIC and FCAC on how they see the trend towards greater federalization of the system, and lessons learned in the processes handled thus far.
Additionally, three papers will be presented that were commissioned by CCUA in 2018 – on the lessons from Federal Cooperatives; insights on the evolution of Desjardins; and, the potential and risk for credit unions from new policy approaches. This discussion will set the table for day 2, a fully interactive session facilitated by Filene, who have established a custom program based on the findings of our member survey earlier in 2018. Our member survey helped CCUA to identify areas of common interest amongst our varied membership – attendees at the conference will explore creative and innovative ways to face some of these challenges, and explore the opportunities.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This will be of special interest to credit unions that are in or are contemplating moving to the federal realm. It will also be of interest to credit union leaders, and to those engaged in government relations and regulatory compliance.
