The Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) Board of Directors met on July 23, 2023, in Vancouver in advance of the World Credit Union Conference.

Prior to the meeting, on July 22nd, the CCUA Board hosted a dinner with the WOCCU Board of Directors. 

The July 23 Board meeting was the first in-person meeting following the Board Reorganization in May. Newly elected Committee Chairs and Vice-Chairs were announced to be Linda Bowyer and Jodi Chambers for the Governance & HR Committee and Tammy Christopher and Michael Smit for the Audit & Risk Management Committee.

Key objectives for this meeting included the review and approval of amendments to the CCUA funding model and the approval of a new framework for auxiliary membership. An amended funding model was reviewed by the Audit & Risk Management Committee at a meeting on June 19, 2023, and, on their recommendation, the Board approved the model. Additionally, the Board received updates on the status of 2023 Corporate Objectives as well as an update on CCUA’s Education services.

The Chair and Vice-Chair of the National Young Leaders Committee were invited to provide an update on the Committee’s activities to the Board. The presentation was well received.

A report on the June 20, 2023, Governance & HR Committee meeting was provided. The report included a recommendation to the Board that it approve a revision to the Committee’s Terms of Reference to increase the number of Committee members given the increased size of the Board due to the new Peer Group structure. The Committee also recommended minor amendments to Board Policies #4 (External Board Representation) and #16 (Director Appointments). No amendments were proposed for Board Policy #5 (Distinguished Credit Union Leader Award). Additionally, the Committee recommended the appointment of Director Linda Bowyer to the WOCCU Board as one of CCUA’s two representatives. The Board subsequently approved this appointment.

The Board received an update on the Audit and Risk Management Committee meeting held on June 19, 2023. The Board approved minor amendments to the Committee’s Terms of Reference and received the interim financial statements as recommended by the Committee. Information on the quarterly review of CCUA’s risk tolerance indicators was shared with the Board for information.

The Board also received a report from the Nominations & Elections Committee that summarized the results of the recent director elections and highlighted some opportunities for improving the next election process.
