New! CCUA Awarded CMHC Grant to Support Housing Affordability Initiatives
The Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) is proud to be named one of the successful recipients of funding from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
This year, on Thursday, October 19th, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of International Credit Union Day (ICU) Day – a day to acknowledge and celebrate the values, impact, and contributions that credit unions have and continue to make towards their members, local communities, and the local economy. Since the 1900s, Canadian credit unions have provided a personalized and people-focused approach to financial services designed to meet their members’ specific financial needs and help them take control of their financial future. This devotion to high-quality member service is part of credit unions’ DNA – a trait they continue to display to this day.
“Credit unions’ steadfast dedication to serving their members positions us as a sector at the pinnacle of customer satisfaction year after year,” says Jeff Guthrie, Canadian Credit Union Association, President and CEO.
Award-winning Customer Service
Canada’s credit unions have always been passionate about providing Canadians with a personalized client experience. In fact, Canada’s credit unions were awarded the top prize for Customer Service at the 2023 IPSOS Financial Service Excellence Awards – a recognition they’ve been awarded 19 years in a row. This sustained recognition further illustrates their unwavering commitment to member service and the consistent excellence that differentiates credit unions in the financial sector.
Canada’s credit unions won in a total of six categories:

Enhancing the Financial Literacy of Canadians of all Generations
Canada’s credit unions continue to financially empower its members and communities by improving members’ financial knowledge at the local and national levels. The Each One, Teach One (EOTO) financial literacy program makes it easier for Canadian credit unions to provide their community members with the knowledge and confidence needed to manage their money effectively and to make responsible financial decisions for themselves and their families. Originally developed by Vancity in 2008 and supported by CCUA for many years, the program is now fully owned and operated by CCUA.
What is EOTO?
The EOTO program trains credit union employees to deliver a series of financial literacy workshops in their communities on topics ranging from everyday banking and budgeting to filing taxes, loans, identity theft, RESPs, and debt. These credit union-led financial workshops have helped Canadians develop a strong foundation of basic financial knowledge to help empower them to make more informed financial decisions for themselves and their families.

Commitment to Community
Credit unions are committed to helping improve the lives of Canadians and their communities. From volunteering to offering financial support to communities and small businesses, credit unions are passionate about helping their communities survive and thrive. These are a few reasons Canadians are proud to bank or work in a credit union. Canada’s Credit Unions Website & Social Channels
In September, we launched our 2023 What is a Credit Union? awareness program on Canada’s credit unions site and blog. This program aims to raise awareness and educate young Canadians and newcomers about credit unions and their benefits to Canadians. As part of this year’s program, we developed a new storytelling video series with the theme “Here For You”, featuring five member stories from across Canada. These long-form videos are being hosted on Canada’s Credit Unions’ website, along with additional member stories that had previously been shared with us and blog articles that we continue to develop on an ongoing basis.
We encourage all of our members to follow our social channels and share our posts to further amplify our messaging.
