Save the Date: Virtual Meeting for Saskatchewan Agriculture Lenders
CCUA will be co-hosting a meeting with SaskCentral for Saskatchewan credit union agriculture lenders on August 25 at 9:00am.  Among the topics on the agenda:  Supporting producers battling drought; Statistics Canada’s latest report on  farm debt; and Agriculture Canada’s new consultation on the renewal of the federal/provincial framework for agriculture policy.  Saskatchewan credit union agriculture lenders interested in participating can contact CCUA’s Research Coordinator, Sherrisse Kiefer.

Input Requested for Pending Regulation of Financial Advisors and Financial Planners
CCUA is soliciting input from all Saskatchewan credit unions in advance of the next provincial government consultation on the regulation of financial planners and advisors. Saskatchewan’s Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority is preparing for another round of consultation on regulations for Saskatchewan Financial Planners and Advisors Act.  Credit unions provided direction to CCUA on this issue in 2019, but we need updated information as Saskatchewan is contemplating Ontario’s future regulatory framework, including the fees and certification processes.  CCUA sent an email to all GMs and CEOs this week with this survey attached and would really appreciate it if your credit union’s input could be emailed to Sherrisse Kiefer by July 27.  When the formal consultation is launched, CCUA will circulate a draft response for credit union review and further feedback.

New Provincial Support Measures for Drought Challenged Producers
Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister David Marit announced several measures this week to enhance support for producers dealing with drought. The Government of Saskatchewan has also formally requested the federal government designate the entire province as eligible through the Livestock Tax Deferral program, for all Saskatchewan producers who may need to liquidate part of their breeding herd due to feed or water shortages.
